The government of Nagaland is being criticized for failing to address perhaps the one concern that is bigger than any other turmoil or issue in Nagaland for the youths today–unemployment and economic stagnation. Corruption continues to deprive deserving youths in all the government departments in the state especially though the practice of “backdoor appointments”.
An organization calling itself the “educated unemployed union Nagaland”, stated to be representing academically qualified but unemployed persons, issued a press release on Tuesday, June 9, censuring the state government of Nagaland for failing to demonstrate political will in addressing the issue unemployment in Nagaland.
Obviously there is lack of political will in the state government of Nagaland to deliver justice in matters of employment and relevant issues, the statement from the union stated.Readers may note here that the number of unemployed persons in Nagaland has been perceived to be increasing by leaps since the 80s when the educational institution began churning out graduates by the thousands every year.
The plentiful “production” of graduates but lack of industry and employment opportunities, and the existence of unchecked corruption and extortion on the other have led to a disproportionate economic index in Nagaland spanning at least two decades.
In the statement, the Educated Unemployed Union of Nagaland expressed ‘pleasure’ and appreciation to the popular mass-based movement Against Corruption & Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) for striving with all efforts to expose corruption practiced by the state government in recruitment and employment engagement in the government sector.
“The EUUN fully endorses its support to the ACAUT in connection their memorandum to the chief secretary and published in the post mortem under the caption–ACAUT petition the chief secretary,” the union explained it its press release.
“Backdoor appointment is an unhealthy practice in the society and should be discontinued. Naga society needs the best in the public sector and the same need not be deprived for a time has come in which elected leaders will have to invest and utilize their talent to promote their chairs,’ the organization stated in the press release.
The time of “receiving easy money like gathering rain water” has ended, the EUUN stated, while lamenting the hardships the people of the state will have to go through to become a self-dependent state.
“Removal of backdoor employment is equally important as removal of corruption in financial matter. The EUUN has been fighting against injustice in matter of employment since long time and has learnt that there is lack of political will in the state government to dispose justice in matter of employment and relevant issue,” the statement from the unemployed stated.
