A dedicatory prayer was offered by pastor of Faith Harvest, Shan Kikon.
Sensing the need to empower the youth, who are well qualified but lack skills, Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship - a one stop centre- will help and facilitate entrepreneurs and job seekers with ideas and entrepreneurial skills to young and upcoming entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, Kire appreciated the commitment and enthusiasm of the YouthNet in trying to bring about positive changes and impacting the lives of the youth.Encouraging the YouthNet team, Kire said their effort to give back to the society was an eye opener for many – ‘a requirement in the society today.’ He urged them to continuously strive to bring positive changes in the society.
He also maintained that Naga youth need a better future – a future that is secure, ensured of livelihood and a future that can be look forward and be proud of so that we leave a positive legacy for our future generation.
Giving a brief background of the ‘Impact 5000 by 2018’ launched in 2013 in partnership with the Government of Nagaland, Director of YouthNet Lezo Putsure said it aims to reach and impact 5000 local youth by 2018 with the goal of building a healthier and stronger private sector in Nagaland by focusing on creating sustainable income opportunities through nurturing and promoting a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem
Over three years, he said, it has reached out to 3700 people and that it desires to create and build more and more socio-economic prosperity for the youth and an entrepreneurial culture in the State.
It may be mentioned here that YouthNet is a non-profit organisation launched in 2006 by some young Naga professionals with a mission to help youth acquire knowledge, develop life skills and form attitudes by enabling them to become self directing, positive, productive, responsible and contributing members of society through active participation and involvement.
Under the Impact 5000 by18 campaign, it has undertaken various projects across the State including carpentry and steel fabrication workshops, handloom and bamboo basket weaving, skill-building programmes, local piggery shop, CAT scholarship, Dial Nagaland, The Entrepreneur, etc.
Observing the social system that is prevalent today, Principal Secretary of Forest & Environment, Abei-o Kire said, ‘There is an upsurge of desire for positive change among the youth of today – a change for good things to happen.’
Speaking at the launching programme of Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship by the YouthNet this morning, Kire observed that government has not met many desires and expectations of the people. Though being a government servant himself, Kire minced no words when he asserted that ‘the public are not getting what they are supposed to get’ and thus there was an upsurge for change for good things to come.
Acknowledging the issues taken up ACAUT in its fight to curb corruption, Kire maintained that ACAUT got the support of people from all walks of life as ‘they have brought up issues which are close to the heart of the people.’
Though ACAUT is just a collection of some few individuals, he observed that people actually came out voluntarily and willing to walk the extra mile when a mass movement of this kind starts as it speak for the people.
Also talking about the Public Distribution System, which is something close to his heart, Kire said ‘people are not getting that are due to them’ adding impoverished families are being deprived of their rights.
He also shared his meeting with the chief minister, wherein he reminded the latter on the need for the Supply Department to undergo a total change so that deserving people get what is due to them.
He further asserted that the government should start working for the people.
