Hosted by Human Resource Development, Khonoma Ruffuno, Nagaland, YouthNet conducted a one-day seminar on Career & Employment opportunity on June 28 at Khonoma Community hall, Terotsiese Kohima.
The session targeted educated youth on various types of career choices and how to go about. Moderated by Huzo Mero, YouthNet Strategist Lezo Putsure began by sharing the various activities of the Impact ‘5000 by 18’ Campaign – which is a collaboration of YouthNet and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland.
He said: “We plan to travel to each district, working with various stakeholders towards building an entrepreneurial ecosystem – an inclusive support system that will build our state”. He encouraged the participants saying, “our parents invest half their hard-earned money in our education and when we graduate but stay unemployed, we burden local growth’ , by being employed or doing productive work that brings income to yourself, you not only add value to your family ‘s investment but contribute to the local economy.”
YN Training consultant Susan Ela James shared slides on communication skills and improving attitude to stay positive and create a growing environment and also how career can be enhanced through part-time jobs, internships etc. She also did a personality test to help the participants understand their strengths and areas to improve on. Nune Chase (YN Training Lead) shared her experience working in the cities and slides on professionalism, work ethics, how to build your career smarter at work, the skills to excel and also how it’s important to create a positive impact to people. Ebibeni Humtsoe Team Lead ‘Nagaland Job centre’ - the recruitment wing of YN shared current job openings in and outside Nagaland and the eligibility. She informed Nagaland was a new growing market with many companies setting up space needing experienced people, which are difficult to source, hence many outsiders take the big jobs in Nagaland and why it is important to gain corporate experience in the city. She informed ’NJC has employed over 300 people since its inception (2012). On a special request, Atunuo Ruth explained how to file an RTI (Right to Information). In conclusion, M/S Seyie Gas Proprietor K. Seyie motivated the young people saying we all have to contribute to our economy ‘we have to start, we have to explore, we have to learn and we have to continuously sharpen our skills’.
