CAGSA observes cultural day held in Khulazu Basa

Kohima, Jan. 23 (EMN): Expounding that culture and tradition are not just about folksongs or dresses but about the lifestyle and character of the forefathers, chairman of Entrepreneur Development Agency, Kohima, Keducho Khamo has encouraged the youth to preserve and promote the culture and traditional values of the forefathers.
Khamo stated this at the 16th cultural day programme of the Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) held on the motto ‘Friendship & Progress’ at Khulazu Basa village local ground under Phek district on January 23.
Khamo, who was the chief guest of the programme, while observing the rapidly changing lifestyle of the youth commented that the society is at the point of losing the ancestral culture and traditional values.
In this regard, he called upon the youth to restore and reform the cultural values and tradition. He also urged the parents to teach their children the good character and values set by the forefathers.
Stating that Chakhesangs were known for honesty, hard-working and who strictly follows the traditional taboos, he questioned if that culture still exists in the society. Lamenting that honesty is lacking in today’s society, he stressed on the need to revive the value of honesty in order to lead the society.
He encouraged the youth to hone their talents and not let laziness hamper them. He also called upon the youth to work for transformation of and uplift of the society. “Let us work together for better tomorrow,” Khamo said.
With the election scheduled in the month of February, he called upon the youth to choose the right candidates who can bring overall development in the society. He also advised the youth not to be enticed with short term material benefits.
Satahi Chuzho, CDPO Tobu and the guest of honour, has encouraged the gathering to promote traditional games. He also urged to prioritise local language as many youngsters are unable to speak their own language. He further asked the parents to teach the children to preserve the identity and language.
In the competition, Phusachodu Village Youth Organisation was adjusted as the winner of group folk dance, while North Kikruma Youth Organisation was declared the runners-up.
The champion team won cash award of INR 50,000 (running) donated by late H Pire Tunyi and the runners-up team received INR 7,000.
In group folk song (indigenous), Thipuzu village was declared winner and received INR 25,000, while K Basa village in second place received cash award of INR 7000.
In individual category for indigenous game for thügo mesü (traditional fire making) Punüzo Chuzho was the winners and Khupo Vero in second place.
In Udo küthi (showing bravery) Veneta Rhakho was adjudged as the winner followed by Ruda Kezo in second place.
For mecü keru (yodeling) Veneta Rhakho claimed the first prize and Puderü Medeo in second. They awards received INR 3000 and INR 2000 respectively.
The programme was chaired by Vesekho Thisa, vice president CAGSA, while the welcome address was delivered by Vetazo Testseo, president, CAGSA.
