Dimapur, Dec 30: Invited speaker and Wing Commander, S AkhetoJakhalu urged the youth to participate in co-curricular activities; inculcate reading habits to improve leadership skills, personality and boost their confidence to compete in any private/public sector.
Exhorting the youth at the 62ndyouth conference of SBAK, Nito Mount, atSurumi village, which was held under the theme “24/7 with Jesus,” he advised youth to effectively utilise their most productive and limited 20 years of student life if they wanted to have a safe and comfortable future ahead. He also encouraged them to excel in their academics.
He requested parents not to discourage their wards if they opted in private sector as government jobs have reached a saturation point in the state.He also urged all civil organisationsin Sumi areas to focus on infrastructure development and economic growth and to remain united with humility. For economic prosperity to take place in the region, he advocated peaceful atmosphere, strong social security and good road condition/connectivity. He said the region has potential for setting up new establishments/ research institutes; agro/horti based small industries and eco-tourism which will not only create job opportunities but also boost the dying economy.
He further called upon all the young and old to participate in the Road Map Vision campaign initiated by All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) on “Mission doing right” aimed at good governance and clean election campaign in all Sumi inhabited areas to bring positive change to meet the aspirations of the youth in the future.
The other speakers included Kahoto J Yepthomi, Deputy Accountant General (A&E), and ShetoyiYepthomi, parliamentary secretary of Fisheries, Printing and Stationeries. They urged the youth to remain focused and work hard to achieve their goals and effectively contribute to the society.
The event was marked with speeches by prominent church leaders and others on clean elections, sanitation and unity. Singing and dancing competitions among various areas and stage shows by Dreamz Unlimited livened up the event.
Approximately 5000 youth from 144 villages and towns under Zunhebotodistrict and other Sumi inhabited areas in the state affiliated with Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) attended the 62ndyouth conference of SBAK, Nito Mount, which was held from December 16-18.
Meanwhile, it was informed that the next annual youth conference will be held in 2018 at Zunheboto.
