Youth urged to conserve culture

Vilie Peli of D Khel, Kohima, celebrates silver jubilee Kohima, Feb 28: Marking 25th anniversary since its formation in 1992, Vilie Peli of D Khel, Kohima, celebrated silver jubilee with traditional fervour at Dzücha Mechüpru, D Khel, on February 28. Parliamentary Secretary of YRS, State Lotteries, MTF, Chairman DPDB Kohima, Khriehu Liezietsu, was the chief guest, while Chairman of D Khel Council, Kelhouphilie Kire, was the guest of honour. Stressing on the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritages, Khriehu Liezietsu, in his address, said forming of peer group is not just about gathering of same age groups, but of taking new initiatives for the glory of the village. He appreciated that in the last few years, Naga villages have slowly begun to adopt the tradition of forming peer groups and doing great things in the villages.While pointing out that though Nagas are Christian, he said it is important to preserve and promote cultural heritages and traditions of our forefathers lest it will all get lost in the name of westernisation. He, therefore, said it should be the responsibility of peer groups to revive, safeguard and promote those for the future generation. Meanwhile, he expressed regret over the misunderstanding and miscommunication that cropped between the government and the people of the State in the recent days, which has not only brought chaos and destruction but created division among the people too. Hence, he urged upon the people to come together with better understanding to work hand in hand in days to come. While stating that his vision is to promote the youth through games and sports, music, education, skill development, vocational training, construction of roads within the village etc, Liezietsu sought the help, support and cooperation of the youth to achieve his visions together. Wishing the members of Vilie Peli, Liezietsu expressed hope that they would continue to undertake good initiatives, inspire the people and be a blessings to the people of Kohima village. Earlier, he unveiled the jubilee monolith and inaugurated the Peli’s resting place constructed at Dzücha Mechüpru, D Khel, Kohima village. The programme began with invocation said by deacon of Khedi Baptist Church, Ruokuolhoulie Kire and folk song was presented by Cultural Promotion Society, D Khel and members of Vilie Peli followed by jubilee feast.
