Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): A total of eighteen rural youth successfully underwent training on value addition of tapioca, sticky rice, roselle, orange, strawberry, garlic and radish into several products such as cakes, juices, jams, marmalades and pickles. Besides, the youth were also trained on packaging in different glass bottles, zip-lock plastic pouches, methods of labelling, branding and marketing of the products.
Participants included rural youth from villages namely Ungma, Longsa, Chuchuyimpang, Mokokchung village, Aliba, Mekuli and Khensa from Ongpangkong North and Ongpangkong South blocks and Mokokchung town.
The training was organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung, from March 25 to 27 in its conference hall, Mokokchung. The training was held in collaboration with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, and the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, under skill training of rural youth (STRY) scheme, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.
According to District Agriculture Officer and ATMA Project Director, Mokokchung, Nungsangkaba, the programme was a contemplated effort to impart skill-based vocational training to the rural youth on agriculture based sectors so as to promote employment generation avenues.
Myan Ngullie, marketing manager, and Imliakum, operations manager of Nagaland Packaging Solutions, Dimapur; Opanglemba, progressive roselle grower from Longsa village; Mepulila and Tialemla from Ebenezer SHG in Kupza village; Toshirenla T Longkumer, Assistant Technology Manager, ATMA, Changtongya block; and Rongsennungla Imchen, ATMA Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Mokokchung, imparted the training on various topics.
Maongsangla, SDAO, Mokokchung, welcomed the participants while R Bendang Ao, ARCS, delivered exhortation speech during the inaugural programme.
Feedback on behalf of the participants was delivered by Bendangsenla from Mekuli village during the valedictory programme. The three-day training concluded with a valedictory programme wherein certificates were given away to all the participants.
