DIMAPUR —  Raising the alarm over the unemployment rate in Nagaland, which stands at 70,000 as of April 2023, the additional secretary and Ex-officio director of Employment, Skill and Entrepreneurship, Kovi Meyase, has urged the youth to broaden their horizons beyond white collar jobs and encouraged them to venture into different fields and be willing to take risks in their pursuit for employment.

Meyasa stated this during the 2nd convocation ceremony of the Government Industrial Training Institute (GITI) in Kohima held on Tuesday as the guest of honour. He informed that as of April 2023, the state has 70,000 unemployed youth, ranking fourth in the country.

In this regard, he urged the graduates to broaden their horizons beyond white-collar jobs and encouraged them to venture into different fields and be willing to take risks in their pursuit of employment, stated a DIPR report.

Meyase congratulated all the successful candidates and urged them to take pride in their accomplishments. He also emphasised the importance of honesty and hard work in securing employment.

He underscored the significance of their diplomas, noting that they would remain mere pieces of paper without proactive steps toward gainful employment. Meyase also expressed gratitude to the principal and staff of GITI Kohima for their contributions and celebrated their achievement of a remarkable 98% pass rate.

Enchiba Longkumer, principal of GITI Kohima, congratulated all the candidates for successfully completing their courses and expressed his gratitude to the faculty for their dedication to nurturing responsible citizens.
