Kohima, Dec. 12 (EMN): President of Chakhesang Youth Organisation Kohima (CYOK), Vevoyi WD Vadeo, on Monday told the youth to work to defend, protect and promote the people and be the torch bearers of peace.
Vadeo was addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Upper Khomi Youth Organisation (UKYO)-cum-inauguration of the newly constructed playground of Upper Khomi Village under Phek district as special guest.
Commenting on the jubilee’s theme ‘Re-orienting the values of youthhood,’ he said it is a time to celebrate the many milestones, achievements and successes of the youth, while reminding that Upper Khomi has been the centre of excellence in many spheres of life such as in education, economic and social progress.
He pointed out that the society has witnessed the growth of population, human development index, socio-political spheres and leadership, and added that the village is not lacking behind in terms of livelihood, employment and standards of living.
Vadeo asserted that the milestone is a time not only to celebrate achievements but also to re-orient/re-educate oneself on the many facets and virtues of the pioneers and elders who have contributed their due share.
He urged the youth to excel in whatever they do, challenging them not to settle for second best and to stop making excuses about things when they are capable of fixing them.
Vadeo also paid tributes to the pioneers and leaders of Centre Chakhesang through whose sacrifices the people of the area are presently enjoying educational and basic health care facilities.
Guest of honour and president of Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation (CCPO), Shepo Dzudo, in his address called upon the youth to live a righteous life and to be initiators of change.
He also mooted the idea of planting ornamental and fruit trees from Pfutsero to Phek for income generation and also to attract tourists and visitors.
Earlier, Kulupoyi V Vadeo delivered the presidential address, while Rev. Dr. Nuvocho Dzudo, pastor of CBC East Dimapur, pronounced the blessing and released the UKYO Constitution.
The special guest released the golden jubilee souvenir and also unveiled the monolith act of the new playground.
The golden jubilee edition of the sports meet will culminate on December 15 with four khels competing in various sports and athletic events.
