An 18-year-old was critically injured after touching an overhead power line while painting Naga Bazaar's welcome gate in Kohima.
KOHIMA — One person was critically injured after being electrocuted while painting the newly constructed welcome gate of Naga Bazaar colony in Kohima on Friday at around 10.15 am.
Chairman of Naga Bazaar, Thinuowhelhou Elvis Kire, told Eastern Mirror that 18-year-old Rahul Ali was painting the gate when he came into contact with an overhead electric wire located about two feet above the structure. He suspected that the victim's head touched the live wire.
Kire said that the victim is a native of Assam. According to doctors, Rahul sustained severe burns to one hand and suffered fractures to his fingers.
At the time of filing this report, doctors said that they could not confirm whether he was out of danger.
Following the incident, Rahul was taken to Putuonuo Hospital before being shifted to the surgical department of Naga Hospital, Kohima, where he was admitted for further treatment.
The chairman informed that the colony would write to local MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, who had initiated the construction of the gate, seeking assistance with the victim's treatment expenses.
They also plan to urge the Power department to inspect the site and relocate the overhead electric wires to prevent similar incidents.
