Dimapur, July 31 (EMN): The Kohima village youth organisation (KVYO) has issued what it stated was a directive on “public road safety and free vehicular movement” in Kohima and surrounding areas.
A press release from the organisation listed nine suggestions/measures: (produced verbatim)
1. KVYO volunteers will be regulating vehicular movements and parking under its jurisdiction indefinitely.
2. KVYO will also be assisting the traffic police at various critical locations affected by landslides in the capital and its surrounding areas.
3. KVYO directs all vehicles users to park, in such a manner that it doesn’t cause inconvenience to other road users be it under city limits, municipal wards, and colonies or in the village.
4. The KVYO will not be tolerating any misbehaviour on public roads by drivers and owners.
5. All vehicles be it private, commercial, government or military are reminded to abide traffic rules and fellow common driving etiquette’s/Rules.
6. No Vehicular overtaking will be tolerated except for medical emergencies.
7. KVYO advices commuters, especially those carrying school children to be prepared for prolonged traffic jams by carrying basic food and water in their vehicles.
8. To park or halt all vehicles with caution and after visually checking terrain and objects stability both above and below the road.
9. The BRO/GREF and the state government is seriously requested to check and maintain the damaged roads within their jurisdiction at the earliest. Natural calamities are unavoidable but negligence on the part of authorities will not be tolerated. Any untoward incident(s) arising out of government apathy will be of serious repercussions.
