WOKHA — Youth organisations on Monday chopped off the hair of two women in Wokha after they were allegedly caught red-handed while peddling drugs suspected to be brown sugar in Tsumang colony on Sunday.
The Tsumang ‘A’ and ‘B’ youth organisations jointly took out a silent procession at Wokha Town on Monday morning, after which the hair of the two accused was chopped off, an act many Naga communities practices as a punishment for some offences, not only to humiliate but also to serve as a deterrent.
The procession was attended by Tsumang ‘A’ and ‘B’ youths, Lotha Eloe Hoho and women leaders with participants holding placards that read ‘Say no to drugs’, ‘Sale of drugs in Lotha area is totally prohibited,” etc. A joint representation was later submitted to the police and Wokha district administration.

The youths took the “extreme step” as the duo were repeated offenders, it was informed, adding that the silent procession was held to let the people know that fighting the drug menace is a collective responsibility.
The Tsumang Youth Organisation informed that it has expelled seven people from the colony in accordance with its resolution passed in May this year to impose a fine and as well as expel drug peddlers.
