Mokokchung, Aug. 23 (EMN): After countless hours of intensive labour put in by volunteers and well-wishers in maintaining the deplorable Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) Road, a health line road for the people for years, youth associations of four wards in Mokokchung town have knocked the door of the concerned authority to immediately repair the whole stretch of the hospital road.
In a representation to the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung on Tuesday, the presidents of four youth associations namely Penli ward, Majakong ward, Lijaba Lijen ward and Artang ward stated that the IMDH road starting from the main Police Point till Sewak Gate junction, measuring about 2 km, is in a deplorable state.
“Besides, the inconvenience caused to the regular commuters, the deplorable condition of the road is aggravating as it poses immense health risks to the sick and needy travelling to the hospital for medical attention,” they stated.
While stating that the hospital could be reached by road from two directions- from Police Point and from Sewak Gate sides, the representation claimed that both are under utterly deplorable conditions at the moment.
They also mentioned that the residents of the four wards have been repairing the road from time-to-time on their own in public interest as the concerned authority had always turned a blind eye to the most vital road for reasons best known to them.
In this regard, they state that the said road needs to be immediately repaired by any means possible.
“We have now run out of patience and we, therefore, appeal to your authority to ensure that the whole stretch of the hospital road is repaired immediately,” they stated.
The youth associations from four wards also cautioned that failure on the part of the authority concerned to immediately repair the road would be considered as apathy towards public welfare and safety.
“We will resort to our own course of action to demonstrate our dissatisfaction if the road is not repaired immediately as demanded,” they warned.
The representation letter was received by SDO (C) Mokokchung, Longdiba L Sangtam, on behalf of the district administration, where Sangtam informed the delegation of four youth associations to take up the matter in the upcoming DPDB meeting and intimate the response to the former.
The copy of the representation letter was submitted to all the elected representatives from Mokokchung district, civil society and stakeholders for information.
