Dimapur, May 16: The energy and enthusiasm, and the aspirations and ideas of the youth possess the potential to creating an environment of peace for the family, community and the nation, students of a motivational program in Wokha were told recently. The message was that the young and their generation were the real peace-makers if only they would find a way to using the potential they possess.
The local motivational group, the Peace Channel, organized a daylong workshop for peace clubs, “teacher’s animators,” and student leaders at the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Wokha town on May 13.
The program was conducted with the theme “Role of educators in peace-building”, the organizers said in a note issued to the media this week.
Speaking during the occasion as the resource person was Rev. Fr. Joseph sdb, the principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School of Wokha. He extorted the gathering saying that the youth were the agents of peace. ‘Young people are the real peace builder. The youth, who are filled with enthusiasm and energetic if molded with the right perspective, has the potential to create a peaceful environment in their own family, community and the whole nation,’ he told the attendees.
The principal also said that everyone was an ‘educator be it a scientist, engineer, housewife or a student.’ Every individual has their own way of educating, he said and that ‘much more than the teachers or the grown up youth contribution to peace building will have greater impact.’ Rev. Fr. Joseph sdb quoted from the Holy Bible: “I came to give you peace and the peace in abundance.” He concluded the session by encouraging the participants saying that peace educators can take the example of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
Another speaker Mitra, the principal of LMS, told the gathering that absence of peace has led to lack of respect for people and communities. For a society to progress, peace is detrimental, he said. ‘Problems in the society are rapidly increasing and the moral values of the people are depleting because the people are not finding peace in themselves.’
The principal appreciated the efforts of Peace Channel in ‘create awareness on peaceful living.’ He encouraged the participants and members of Peace Channel to press forward the message of peace ‘far and wide.’
While exhorting the participants the project coordinator of Peace Channel, RK John, explained ‘the path to inner peace and universal peace.’ The actions that accelerate the individuals towards peace, according to him, were ‘dreaming for peace, thinking for peace, speaking for peace, praying for peace, working for peace and living for peace.’
Besides the workshop, the organizers also conducted a drawing competition for the students on the theme “Unity in diversity.” Nzano Odyuo was declared the winner of the completion, the organization informed.
