Young minds build frames of the future at science project

Commissioner-secretary for Work and Housing Rovilatuo Mor attended the programme as its special guest. In his address to the gathering, the government servant urged the students to make use of science in a way that is beneficial for the society. In the 21st century science and technology have become part of life that it dominates and impacts daily life, he said. Mor spoke about giving serious attention to science subjects, to adopt and to exploit possibilities through them to make for a better future of the society. Commenting on the motto of the exhibition, “Science and technology for sustainable development,” the official opined that science has a greater meaning and trust. He urged the students to let it be a way of life that would impact and improve the economy and on the generation. “Put into practice whatever you have learned and what you are on the stage of discovery,” Mor said. The government servant warned that despite the advancement of science and technology it is also destructive when not used wisely. He advised the students not to engage in anything that would have adverse repercussions but to use it positively. District Education Officer Doju Khate also spoke at the programme. He informed that the winners of the two categories ie., individual and team, will represent the district in the inter-district science exhibition that is scheduled to be held on November 7. Some of the projects at the exhibition included those themed on sewage treatment, hybrid vehicles, future transportation and communication, hygiene and health, science and technology for sustainable development of agricultural production, eco-friendly plastic roads, energy to tackle ‘Jhum’ cultivation, mathematical model of cancer for sustainable development etc. Individual category: The first position in the category was won by Lemei, a class-12 student at Model hr. sec. school, the second position by Kekhriesino Meyase, a class- 9 student of Mezhür hr. sec. school and the third position by Hopila l Thongrü, a class-11 student of Ministers’ Hill Baptist hr. sec. school. Team category: The first position was won by Model hr. sec. school. The team consists of Nongoto Lcho, class-12; and Nowhevito Nagi, class-12. The second position was won by St. Mary’s Cathedral hr. sec. school. The team consists of Niketo Tuccu, class-10; and Ifkali Yepthomi, class-10. The third position was won by Mezhür hr. sec. school. The team consists of Chosenül, class-11 and Jetsoi, class-11.
