Kohima, Oct. 27 (EMN): After a huge success in Nagaland, Yoddha Fighting Championship is back to the state capital for the second time this year to witness some of the best amateurs mixed martial arts fights inside the cage on Saturday evening from 5 pm onwards at the Kohima local ground.
The championship will witness eight matches including a professional bout in Yoddha FC’s different weight divisions on the third day of the combat sports festival.
16 players including four women fighters are taking part in the championship and four naga amateur mixed martial art fighters namely Longstukumba Ao, Matsung Ozukum, Avizo Lanamai, Avizo Lanamai will be fighting for the championship in the weight categories of Bantam-weight (61kgs), straw-weight (52kgs), feather-weight (66kgs).
Yoddha Fighting Championship, a pan Indian Mixed Martial Arts promotion, had its show in Dimapur (2014), in Mokochung (2015), while the Yoddha Fighting Championship - YFC Season 1: Finale was held at I.G Stadium, Kohima in the month of April this year.
“A transition from Naga wrestling to take up MMA should not be a problem for talented wrestlers” said Kethosituo Elvis Mepfhüo convener of 3E while delivering his keynote address during the inaugural function of combat sports festival on October 26. He said that MMA fighters are highly disciplined individuals, having a background of many different forms of combat sports despite the fact that many people are ignorant and presume it to be a very brutal sport without any rules.
He hoped that sports enthusiasts will be entertained and at the same time, talented athletes will benefit from both the events (wrestling and MMA) of the three-day event.
Meanwhile CL John, MLA will grace the valedictory function as the guest of honor. The championship is held in collaboration with 3E Nagaland (Elite Entertainment Enterprise).
