MOKOKCHUNG — Responding to a long-standing
need for improved infrastructure, the Yimyu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) has initiated maintenance work on Nagachari road, also known as NI Jamir
School road.
The work began on Tuesday and set to improve a key route
that connects residents of Yimyu ward to essential services and the Indian Oil
fuel outlet.
Nagachari road had been in a deplorable condition, making
daily commutes challenging and raising concerns over safety and accessibility,
especially during the monsoon season when the road became almost impassable.
The Yimyu unit BJP recognised the urgency of the matter and collaborated with
the local community to address this critical issue.
The maintenance project is being funded through the Local
Area Development Programme (LADP) with significant additional contributions
from well-wishers and residents of Yimyu ward.
The project is overseen by members of the Yimyu unit BJP,
who have taken an active role in managing resources and logistics.
A team of 12 labourers has been employed to carry out the
work, which involves leveling the road, filling potholes and ensuring improved
drainage to prevent future damage.
To facilitate the work, a temporary roadblock has been
implemented on Nagachari road and commuters are being diverted to Church road.
The maintenance effort is expected to take approximately one week, with regular
updates being provided to the community to minimise disruption.
Nagachari road serves as a vital lifeline for residents of
Yimyu ward, linking them to schools, healthcare facilities and marketplaces.
Over the years, its deteriorating condition has not only caused inconvenience
but also posed risks for pedestrians and vehicle users alike.
The maintenance work, therefore, is not just a practical
improvement but also a step towards ensuring safety and accessibility for all.
The initiative exemplifies the positive impact of
collaboration between political representatives and the local community. The
Yimyu unit BJP has emphasised the importance of addressing infrastructure
issues through teamwork and expressed gratitude for the contributions and
support received from the residents.
