Yimchungru public residing in an around Dimapur town has announced to organise a silent peace procession in Dimapur town on February 18 in protest against the February 6incident where a couple was murdered between Kiphire and Shamator; rampant mob violence in Kiphire town and indiscriminate firing by security forces in Shamator town and subsequent injury of many innocent students and public.
Western Yimchunger Hoho (WYH) president, PKF Tochu and the general secretary of Western Yimchunger Students’ Union (WYSU), Tsukhumong, informed that the public will gather at DC Court Junction, Dimapur, at 11 am and proceed to the Deputy Commissioner’s office for submission of ‘charter of demand’ for redressal to the competent authority. The procession will be a ‘complete silent and peaceful’ where the participants will display placards. The procession, first phase agitation, has been necessitated against the failure of the State Government to fulfill the YTC’s seven-day ultimatum submitted on February 9.
It urged the administration, law enforcing agencies, security personnel and general public to extend fullest cooperation for the successful conduct of the procession.Meanwhile, in compliance to the request by the WYH to hold students cum public march on February 18, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, has allowed the public march route from DC Court Junction to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office between 10 am to 12 noon. The notification stated that the total number of participants should not exceed 100 people while adding that the public march should not, in any manner, disturb the normal flow of traffic. The order further stated that the overall responsibility of the event will lie with the WYH, adding, in the event of violation of any of the terms and conditions, WYH will be penalized as the provision of the law.
Affected Yimchunger villagers not happy with administration
The affected Yimchunger people of Kiphire have expressed their unhappiness over the way the state government handles the situation. Some of the fleeing Yimchunger people who reached Dimapur held a press conference today in Dimapur to narrate their ordeal.
“The security forces present there just watched the whole episode of mob violence,” narrated a Yimchunger villager. He said things would have been different if the administration had taken up required measures to contain the mob violence. Supplementing her colleague, another villager lamented that they feel there is no administration at all in Kiphire.
Meanwhile, according to these villagers who are looking for shelter in Dimapur said about 200 families have left Kiphire town. They further said over 800 students including 110 students appearing Class X and XII have been affected by the violence triggered by the February 6 incicdent. They appealed educational institutions in Dimapur and Kohima to consider admission for these students on “humanitarian ground”.
