MOKOKCHUNG — The
Yajang C Village Council has categorically denied allegations of encroachment
along the Assam border and alleged intimidation by Naga people, as reported by
the Assam Tribune.
When contacted, the chairman of Yajang C Village Council
clarified that the villagers have always respected the traditional boundary
shared with Assam. He maintained that recent jungle clearing activities were conducted
within their jurisdiction and did not infringe upon any land belonging to
Assam.
Regarding the alleged intimidation, the chairman stated that
an inquiry was conducted with residents of a neighbouring colony in Assam to
verify the claims. The inquiry revealed that no such incidents had occurred, as
confirmed by Assam residents in the area.
The council reiterated its commitment to peaceful
coexistence and respecting traditional boundaries.
Meanwhile, the EAC Longchem informed that a border
magistrate level coordination meeting between Nagaland and Assam was held at
Yajang C Village on Thursday to address the issue. The meeting was followed by
a spot verification. However, the official stated that the meeting was
inconclusive, and another sitting will be scheduled soon to resolve the matter.
