DIMAPUR — In an effort to promote administrative discipline and workplace accountability, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, on Wednesday, conducted surprise inspections across various government departments in Wokha town, reinforcing the state's commitment to implementing a "No Work, No Pay" policy.

According to a report from the DIPR, the inspections began with the Transport department, where Patton reviewed attendance registers and conducted physical checks on the employees. It was reported that out of 20 staff members listed, only six were present, while 14 were absent without prior approval.

As a result, the deputy chief minister ordered salary deductions for those absentee employees and instructed that their names be forwarded to the deputy commissioner for further action.

He also verified whether those marked present were actually at their workstations. Those found to be missing despite being marked present were considered absent and faced salary deductions as well.

At the Agriculture department, nine out of 47 staff members were found absent, leading to similar disciplinary actions, including same-day salary deductions for unauthorised absences. In the Water Resources department, eight of the 31 employees were also absent.

During his visits, Patton emphasised the importance of punctuality, proper leave procedures and consistent attendance as fundamental responsibilities of public servants.

"All employees are expected to attend the office regularly. Leaves must be officially applied for and approved in advance," Patton said.

He also warned that more unannounced inspections would be conducted in the coming months to ensure strict compliance.

Additionally, the deputy chief minister took the opportunity to listen to departmental grievances and operational challenges, assuring officials that necessary follow-up action would be initiated.
