DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Saturday inaugurated the District Drugs De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Chukitong town under Wokha district.


The centre is a joint initiative of the Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Social Welfare, and the Wokha district administration.


An update from the CMO media cell stated that the facility is intended to support individuals dealing with substance abuse through care, counselling and recovery services. It will function as a local centre for those seeking a way forward, offering structured support and a chance to rebuild.


The inaugural programme began with an invocation said by Rev. Rentsamo Kithan, followed by a welcome address and introduction by Rev. Amos Humtsoe, manager of DDAC, Chukitong. The keynote address was delivered by a representative from the head office of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, Dimapur.


Speaking at the inaugural programme, Patton acknowledged the collective efforts behind setting up the facility. He spoke about the seriousness of addiction and the need for compassion-driven responses.


The deputy CM further thanked all agencies and individuals involved and noted the church’s vital role in guiding and supporting those in recovery.

Short speeches were delivered by district welfare officer, C James Ezung; Advocate Oren Humtsoe, advisor to CRPO; chairman of Lotha Hoho and the chairman of Chukitong Range Pastors’ Fellowship.


Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, also addressed the gathering, expressing the district administration’s support for the initiative.


The vote of thanks was delivered by N Ngullie, pastor of AG Church Mungya, and concluded with a closing prayer pronounced by T Robin Kikon, pastor of Chukitong Baptist Church.


The event was also attended by Advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan; MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe; Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dr. Chumben Murry and Superintendent of Police, Wokha, Rhovisie Nyuwi. Members of the church, civil society organisations and various district officials were also present.
