Dimapur, Nov. 21 (EMN): As part of a ‘whirlwind campaign’ in the run-up to the Mizoram state assembly elections scheduled to be held on Nov. 28, the deputy chief minister of Nagaland Y Patton addressed a public gathering at Darlak in Mamit district of Mizoram on Nov. 21.
A press release from Patton’s office on Wednesday said that a candidate, Vanlalruata Pachua, was contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket for the Hachhek (ST) assembly constituency.
In his address to the gathering, Y Patton referred to Nagaland stating that “99 percent” of Nagaland’s population was Christian. “However, in the last assembly elections BJP had won a record time high 12 seats out of 20 seats contested and formed a PDA government under the able chief minister Shri. Neiphiu Rio where BJP is a major alliance partner,” the press release explained.
Patton was quoted as having claimed that the Naga people had understood that like any other political party, the BJP is also a secular and welfare political party, ‘which is committed to work for the uplift of the downtrodden people in the country and not an anti-Christian party as alleged by other political opponents.’
The deputy chief minister appealed to the people ‘not to be swayed away by false rumors which are politically motivated rhetoric spread by adversaries.’
“Lamenting on the prevailing road conditions in Mizoram whereby it took him more than six hours to travel 110 kilometers from Aizwal to Darlak in Mamit district which show complete lack of development in the state under the present dispensation, Y Patton called upon the electorates to vote for BJP for positive change and development under the dynamic prime minister of India Narendra Modiji and Shri. Amit Shahji, the national president of BJP.”
Patton also highlighted some of the welfare schemes launched by the central government, the updates stated.
