DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11: The 3rd sports-cum-literary week of the Western Yimchungrü Students’ Union (WYSU) got underway at Loyir Village (New Showuba) with the Commissioner and Secretary of Youth Resources & Sports, L Kire, as the chief guest, and the DIG (CID/INT), Richard Yimto, as the guest of honour, at the inaugural programme on October 10.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner and Secretary said Nagas need to live in harmony with one another to survive and thrive as a people. Kire said since Loyir village shares boundaries with villages of other Naga tribes, it is incumbent of the village to maintain cordial relations and fellow-feeling with neighbouring villages.
Referring to WYSU motto ‘Wisdom reigns supreme,’ Kire said the motto is an embodiment of ideal living when guided by wisdom which can be acquired through education. Stating that education is a key to open many doors of opportunities in one’s life, he advised the students to take education and extracurricular activities like games and sports in earnest if they want to forge ahead in life.
The Commissioner & Secretary of YR&S also said the new sports policy ‘Khelo India’ can prove to be boon for sportspersons from the North East as people from this region have the potential to excel in sports and games.
The guest of honour, Richard Yimto, said Nagas have the right physique to shine in sports and games such as badminton, cricket, football, boxing, archery and martial arts and cited Naga sportspersons like late Dr. T Ao who have done Nagas proud. Yimto also said in the present day, sports has become an industry adding sportspersons are most respected people.
