KOHIMA — The Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) conducted a two-day judges’ seminar and technical training at the Nagaland Olympic Association office, Kohima, on September 11 and 12 to strengthen officiating standards and build technical expertise in the state.

The training was led by NIS-certified coach Gabriel Khamo, who covered officiating skills and introduced participants to the basics of Wushu (Sanda). The programme also aimed to equip trainees with the knowledge to eventually establish Wushu academies in Nagaland.

Seventeen trainees from Noklak, Peren, Kohima, Phek, Dimapur, Mokokchung, and Mon districts took part in the seminar.

In his concluding remarks, Khamo urged the judges to prepare for the Nagaland State Wushu Championship (Sanda event) scheduled for October 21 to 23. He said local referees and officials are essential for developing the sport at the grassroots level and encouraged the trainees to train young talents in their districts.

He stated that the seminar is expected to help improve refereeing standards and strengthen technical foundations in the state.

It may be noted that under the leadership of Kudecho Khamo, NWA president and MLA & Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, the association has resolved to facilitate the establishment of Wushu academies in selected districts. District associations or individuals will undergo verification before receiving support from the NWA.
