Wokha Town Council after the inauguration of an upgraded office building on
Friday.
- WOKHA — The Wokha
Town Council (WTC) on Friday inaugurated its newly upgraded office building in
the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and minister in-charge of Home and Border
Affairs, Y Patton, as the special guest.
- Speaking on the occasion, Patton called upon the elected
town councilors and government nominated members to work for the welfare and
development of the town and the people of the district. He urged upon the WTC
members to make use of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2022 as their bible and
effectively discharge their powers and functions.
- Patton also called upon the councilors to remain united and
set an example for other urban local bodies in development activities.
- He acknowledged Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for
his vision and dedication in realising the long-overdue ULB elections which was
held after a gap of two decades. He added that the all-party government in the
state was to strengthen the much-anticipated Naga political settlement.
- Attributing mushrooming of various Naga political groups as
an impediment towards achieving the common goal, Patton urged all the Naga
national workers to unite and come together under one platform in their pursuit
for an amicable solution. He also encouraged the Nagas to voice out in unison
for a permanent political settlement.
- Patton also acknowledged Zhaleo Rio, advisor of Urban
Development and Municipal Affairs, on his vision for developing all municipal
councils and town councils in the state. Besides, he also appreciated the
members of WTC for judicious utilisation of funds towards construction of the
office building.
- Special invitee and advisor to the chief minister, Dr.
Chumben Murry, urged the members to have farsighted vision and urged them to
adopt good self-governance from neighbouring states and districts. He urged
them to make Wokha town a smart town.
- Dr. Murry also called upon the councilors to be
people-friendly by making themselves accessible in their efforts to serve the
public. Describing the councilors as representatives of their respective wards,
he urged them to be conversant with the Nagaland Municipal Act 2022.
