Wokha, May 9 (EMN): Wokha Town Council (WTC) during an interaction with the Town Council officials on Monday said that with much effort, it has purchased land to be used as a dumping site.
This was necessitated as the site, which was earlier being used on lease, had to be dropped due to various reasons and complaints. The current location for the WTC dumping site is now 17 km away from Wokha town towards Pongidong village.
However, WTC officials stated that it will face challenges during monsoon due to bad roads.
The WTC has one dumper, one mini dumper truck, five pliable pickup trucks, and one cesspool which work through Wokha town.
Meanwhile, deliberating on proper toilets in commercial areas in and around the town, the WTC stated that it has constructed 48 Community Toilet Public Toilet (CTPT) in 22 blocks which have been constructed in public places, schools, and colleges areas. WTC also stated that ‘less could be done in public/ commercial areas in Wokha town since land acquisition is a bigger challenge for constructing toilets in those targeted areas, while the fund for constructing one toilet is INR 40000-43000, while various policies like tie-ups with landowners could not be effectively implemented, it reported.
Speaking on the display of proper daily price rate fixation through WTC, the officials reported that soon the office will keep highlighting prices, while it has put up WTC notice board in and around strategic locations at Wokha town.
Having few resources, the officials claimed that they are trying their best to facilitate keeping the town clean.
