Mokokchung, March 7: As part of the Swachh Shakti Week under the banner of Swachh Bharta Mission (Gramin), WSSO, PHED Mokokchung Division, in partnership with Mokokchung Arts and Aesthetic Management (MAAM) conducted an “awareness campaign on menstrual cycle on girl child,” at Mangyangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, on March 7.
Dr. Temsumenla Longkumer from IMDH, Mokokchung, was the resource person of the programme. She said about 80% of women experience pre-menstrual symptoms like acne, breast tenderness, bloating, tiredness, irritability, and mood swings due to the hormonal changes.
In this regard, she advised the female high school students to avoid salt, caffeine, alcohol and maintained healthy diet and exercise which will reduce the symptoms.
Stressing on topic, Dr. Amen asserted that openly discarded napkins spoils the aesthetics beauty of a place and are a cause of embarrassment. She also counselled students not to used napkins sustain to bacterial growth which can cause harm to anyone who comes in direct contact with it. She said recklessly discarded napkins finds their way into the soil and contaminate water.
“This is a serious harm to the environment,” Dr Amen said.
Dr. Amen also stressed on teenage pregnancy under the age of 20 years and consequences of teenage pregnancy. She stated that most teen pregnancies are hidden for months resulting in lack of adequate pre-natal care and dangerous outcome for the baby as well as the mother.
More than 200 plus female high school students attended the awareness camp.
Coinciding with the programme, a painting competition for girl’s students of Mokokchung district was conducted at the same venue on the theme “Vision/dream of clean village.”
Altogether students from 11 schools around Mokokchung participated at competition and were judged by renowned artists from Mokokchung namely Allan Mark, Wapang Ozukum and Senti Ozukum. The winner will be declared during the culmination of Swachh Shakti Week cum International Women’s Day on March 8.
