Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): A local youth organisation in Phek town has cleaned their area. The organisation, Phek Town Youth Society, issued a press release on Sunday informing to have undertaken a cleanliness drive on July 8. Besides cleaning waste and litter, the group informed, the youths are informed to have worked to sanitize areas to prevent potential breeding of mosquitoes.

According to the Phek Town Youth Society, the event was undertaken based on the theme “clean green operation.” The youths “carried out picking up all scattered polythene, wrappers and other waste materials and desilting (sic) puddles,” besides pruning hedges and mowing ‘the yard’ to ‘reduce shade in order to diminish mosquitoes larvae to develop in stagnant water.’
“The Phek Town Youth Society also sensitized the public during its working hour not to throw waste materials hither and thither rather than maintain a dustbin in every nook and corner and prevent other sources of stagnant water to avoid malaria disease the youths also plough weeds and grasses to nurture planted trees and seasonal flowers in the past few days,” the press release explained.
The cleanliness activity covered all the 11 colonies of Phek town, the organisation explained. About 160 youths participated in the event, it stated.
The PTYS has requested all the youth volunteers of the town to be prepared to “clear up jungles at Phek Town Tourist guest house schedule on 22nd July 2017.”
