A World War-II veteran from Phek village, Sovehu Nienu, on Thursday celebrated his 100th birthday at his residence in the village, under Phek district.
During the occasion, Lt. Col. B Singh, the 2nd in-command of the 46th Assam Rifles, released a biography of Sovehu Nienu. Former minister and member of the state assembly Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu also attended the event.
A brief life story of Sovehu was shared by Chovose Nienu, the eldest son of the vateran. He said that his father joined the 1st Assam Regiment in 1941 and retired in 1948 in the rank of Havildar. He fought the WW-II at Kohima and was honoured with six gallantry awards in recognition of his bravery and service to the nation.
Messages of Nagaland Governor P B Acharya and Chief Minister TR Zeliang were also read out during the event.
