  • World Veterinary Day was started by the World Veterinary Association in the year 2000 to celebrate the contribution of veterinarians to the health and well beings of animals, people and the environment around the world.

  • The importance of a veterinary doctor is felt all over the world for the kind of impact they have created for animal health care, prevention, various control/eradication programmes against infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, re-emerging diseases and welfare activities, and thus making the world a better and safer place for animal and human to co-exist.

  • Veterinarians also play a vital role in major sector of the society, be it in food security, meat and dairy industry, poverty alleviation, scientific researches, employment generation, etc.

  • Keeping in mind the huge diversity of works in different fields of veterinary practices and the crucial role a veterinarian has to play, the World Veterinary Association has chose the theme: “Animal Health Takes a Team” for this year’s Veterinary Day. The theme emphasises the collaborative nature of veterinary practice, highlighting the importance of various stakeholders working together to provide quality animal health care, protecting public health and caring for the environment by working together all stakeholder, i.e. veterinarians, para-veterinarians, veterinary technicians, researchers and other allied health professionals for  a better animal health care services.

  • As we mark the celebration of this World Veterinary Day and also as a responsible citizen, it is necessary to highlight some of our basic duties:

  • -              Motivating young people to take up the noble veterinarian profession and various (fields) related to veterinary industries.

  • -              Improving the living condition of animals that live with us or those homeless/ abandoned ones.

  • -              Creating awareness among the people about various zoonotic diseases and the importance of routine immunisation of our animals/pets.
  •
  • Preventing Animal Cruelty
  •
  • Create public awareness about the need to recognise and support the works of a veterinarian. May this day be a reminder for all of us to embark upon “Animal Health Takes a Team” in order to strive stronger in the field of veterinary practices and towards excellence.

  • Happy World Veterinary Day 2025!
