Peren district celebrates World Fisheries Day 2025 at Kevipele Fishery, Jalukie town.

DIMAPUR — World Fisheries Day 2025 was celebrated in Peren district on November 21 at Kevipele Fishery, Kaleilwa Ward, Jalukie town.
According to a DIPR report, the event was organised by the Jalukie Valley Fishery Co-operative Society, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Peren.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru attended the occasion as special guest. In his speech, the DC thanked the Fishery department, the fish farmers of Jalukie valley the District Fishery Officer Peren, C Dory Yanthan, for organising such a programme.
Meru highlighted the importance of sustaining fisheries management in the district and encouraged the gathering to go back to nature and conserve the aquatic and ecosystem.

He also encouraged the gathering and informed about the forthcoming Unity Mini Hornbill Festival in Peren to commence from December 4 to the 6th.
Earlier, president of Anglers’ Association Nagaland (AAN), Mhonbemo Ngullie and Neitho- o Kuotsu, Joint Director of Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, also encouraged the citizens to generate more fish to promote their economy for their livelihood.
The activities of the day included competition such as angling and snail eating. The special guest declared and launched the Peren District Anglers Association (PDAA).
Rev. Kuzierang Thou offered blessings for the day’s programme, and Akhiubo Kaurintah, president of Jalukie Valley Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd., proposed the vote of thanks.
