World Earth Day 2026 observed in Kakching with student participation, webinars, plantation drives and awareness programmes promoting environmental protection

IMPHAL — World Earth Day 2026 was observed across various schools in Manipur’s Kakching district by the zonal education office, Kakching, under the supervision of the district administration on Wednesday.
The observance was held in line with this year’s global theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, highlighting environmental challenges and the need for collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.
As part of the programme, 1,267 participants, including teachers and students from 44 schools in the district, took part in a national webinar organised under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.

The webinar featured Kartikeya V Sarabhai, founder and director of the Centre for Environment Education, and Chetan Singh Solanki, founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, as key speakers.
Various activities such as tree plantation drives and awareness programmes were organised across schools to promote environmental consciousness among students. Teachers also conducted sessions highlighting the importance of environmental protection and the adoption of sustainable living practices at the school level.
The Assam Rifles also observed the day across border villages in Chandel and Kamjong districts by spearheading a series of community-driven environmental initiatives.
