Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): The department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection in collaboration with the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organized a programme marking World Consumer Rights Day on March 15.
A press release from the organisers on Saturday stated Dr Fr.C P Anto, principal of the NEISSR, as having said in his inaugural speech that there was a need to protect consumers against market abuse, social injustice and the need to fight for the rights of consumers.
Advocate Stephen Yanthan also spoke during the event. He emphasized on the rights that consumers can avail; their need to be vigilant and be aware of the products they use or consume, the press release stated.
Social work trainees gave discourses during the event. NG Alan Paul Mathingso, a 4th semester social work trainee, spoke about the benefits and issues of security, the updates stated. Likewise, Imnayangla Jamir, also a 4th semester MSW trainee spoke about awareness of basic consumer rights. Tokupu Chophy, a 2nd semester social work trainee, highlighted the challenges faced by consumers. A discussion and question hour was also conducted as part of the programme, the updates stated.
