Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): The 6th Global Summit on Aquaculture and Fisheries was held on May 25 and 26 in Osaka, Japan, on theme “To create and disseminate the knowledge of aquaculture and fisheries.”
Dr. Nchumbeni Humtsoe from Fisheries Department, Nagaland, was selected to be one of the main speakers among the scientists participated from across the globe. Dr. Humtsoe, in her keynote address presenting the “Status of fisheries development in Nagaland,” emphasised on huge potentiality of freshwater aquaculture that was well received and recognised by the international community present in the summit.
She also delivered a talk on “Fish nutrition and physiology” based on her Ph.D. thesis and given privileged to give testimonial about the conference which has been uploaded on the conference website.
Various topics that were presented in the summit included latest technologies to be applied in different fields, aquaculture nutrition, various economic resources, environmental management etc.
Dr. Humtsoe opined that this type of gathering was essential to learn, share and to brainstorm on aquatic resources with eminent scientists from all over the world and great opportunity to make known to the world about the potentialities of fisheries and challenges been faced by the people of Nagaland for possible research and development in future.
On the concluding day, senior most scientist, Dr. WMTB Wanninayake, mentioned that Naga people are hard working, multi-talented and sincere.
Dr. Humtsoe thanked all the well-wishers including church community, who prayed for her journey, friends, relatives and all the staff of Fisheries Department who have extended moral support and encouragement and especially the Director of Fisheries Department for his benevolent and proactive support all throughout her preparation and journey.
