Dimapur, Mar 1: World Cancer Day was observed in Peren with the theme “We can, I can,” on February 28 at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, New Headquarter Peren.
Chairing the program, Dr. Tiala, Deputy CMO said the World Cancer Day is being observed worldwide and it’s been observed in Peren district for the first time. She also stressed on ‘together we can fight Cancer’ and how everyone as collective or individuals can extend to reduce the burden of cancer.
Exhorting the gathering, DC Zarenthung Ezung, said healthy lifestyle is very important and that Cancer is one of the leading causes of deaths. He also said awareness is the main tool and it is the duty of every individual to spread the message and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds. He added that healthy living includes happiness which is one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy life. Further, DC called upon the medical department if they could utilize the church platform to create intensive awareness on health issues.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ngangshimeren, expressed his sincere appreciation to all participants for attending the program. He mentioned that World Cancer day was observed worldwide on 4th February 4, but due to unavoidable circumstances it’s been observed on February 28. He also shared why World Cancer Day is observed and its significance and highlighted the symptoms of cancer, types of cancer, risk factors and its prevention. He stated that the main aim isto create awareness and education, to encourage its prevention, detention and treatment about cancer pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action. He also said that the primary aim of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death cause by cancer by 2020. Further, he mentioned that that currently 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year.
The program concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Yartenla, DTO, RNTCP. Officials from various departments participate in the programme.
A total of 30 patients availed the services. Out of which 1 person was diagnosed with diabetes and 3 hypertension cases.
