Kohima, June 14 (EMN): The Gorkha Public Panchayat & Gorkha Students’ Union of Kohima in collaboration with the Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Kohima, and the Blood Bank of Naga Hospital Authority of Kohima observed World Blood Donor Day at the Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall in Chandmari in the capital town on Wednesday.
The chief guest of the event was Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao, managing director of Naga Hospital Authority. He encouraged the gathering to donate blood. “Donating blood cannot shorten your life,” he said.
Dr. Khimiao said that the blood in the body can remain only for approximately 90 days after which the blood ‘dies’ and go out in the urine. If the people know how the human mechanism works in the body, he said, the people won’t hesitate to donate blood.
Kholie Dolf, president of Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Kohima, gave a motivational talk. He emphasized on creating awareness among the people so that people can donate blood voluntarily and save lives.
Ideal Cure Clinic, Kohima: Ideal Cure Clinic also observed World Voluntary Blood Donor Day at Ideal Cure Clinic on Wednesday with the theme “What can you do? Give blood. Give now. Give often”.
Delivering a short speech, Kholie Dolf, president of Voluntary Blood Donors Association, said that there was no substitute for human blood or factory that can manufacture blood. It can come only from blood donors. So with no alternative, he said, voluntary blood donation is the only way to saves life, Dolf said.
Donating blood can also reduce the risk of heart disease, he said. By donating blood, he said, it removes 225 to 250 milligrams of iron from the body and cut the risk of heart diseases in fact. “You may not be a doctor but you can save lives by donating your blood,” Dolf says.
One of the organizers said that the program was to spread awareness among the people, in order for them to donate blood voluntarily and also for them to realize the importance of donating blood in saving a life.
