Imphal, Feb. 8 (EMN): Five-day world bamboo workshop held at City Convention Centre in Imphal concluded here on Friday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony Governor Dr. Heptulla said that special focus has also been given on projecting bamboo to be a part of New Urban Agenda.
The workshop was organised by Manipur government and the World Bamboo Organization (WBO).
The governor said that the workshop will throw light on how the state can develop its natural potentials in bamboo for the advancement of the economy and provide economically viable and gainful alternatives to its people.
Dr. Heptulla expressed hope that the deliberations and exchanges of information, knowledge, know-how, demonstration and uses of bamboo during the workshop would benefit the people of the state.
Minister Biswajit Singh, in his presidential speech said that the outcome of the technical session must be put on the ground in practical and should be a game-changer.
Earlier, the WBO President Michel Abadie has made an appealed to the central authority to use bamboo as construction materials not only in the region but also across the country.
WBO Executive Director Susanne Lucas called for everyone’s involvement in promoting bamboo for a sustainable livelihood.
The thrust area in the Workshop has been promotion of sustainable plantation, development and use of the natural product of bamboo for the benefit of the communities.
The next 4th edition of the world bamboo workshop will be held in Taiwan next year.
Secretary (DoNER) Navin Verma, Additional Chief secretary (Forest & Environment) Dr Suhel Akhtar, President Michel Abadie of WBO, Executive Director Susanne Lucas and International Coordinator Motera also attended the event.
