Wokha, Sep. 2 (EMN): District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN), in collaboration with department of fisheries and aquatic resources, conducted a workshop on conservation of aquatic resources cum release of fingerlings funded under RKVY on September 1 at Doyang Reservoir. Speaking at the workshop, senior PS to deputy chief minister Hachio Patton expressed his willingness to play pro-active role in channelling the grievances of the fishing community and development of Doyang as a tourist destination.
Resources person led by Sentinaro, DFO Wokha, and her colleagues sensitised the gathering on sustainable fishing and adverse effect on the use of dynamites and chemical in Doyang.
EAC Englan, Echungbemo Erui, village council members from neighbouring villages and the fishing community numbering 60 attended the workshop. The programme was chaired by KN Mhonthung Lotha, president DAWN.
Meanwhile, village council leaders and members from the fishing community resolved to impose ban on the use of dynamites and chemicals for sustainable fishing. They have urged the department of fisheries and the state government to look into the welfare of the community.
DAWN has also called upon the state government to come out with a legislation involving community participation for a ban of dynamites and chemicals in rivers particularly in Doyang for sustainable fishing. It has also thanked Kevisa Kense, director of fisheries and aquatic resources, and DFO Wokha for releasing a truck load of fingerlings in Doyang reservoir.
