KOHIMA, JUNE 30: A three-day capacity building workshop focused on quality monitoring tools (QMTS) for project assistants, EBRC coordinators and Trainers of Teachers concluded Thursday with its valedictory program held this evening in Kohima town. The event was conducted at the SIEMAT training hall of the SCERT.
The program was organized by Nagaland Education Mission Society, State Mission Authority, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Prof Dr VP Singh, the program coordinator of the OMYs department of elementary education of NCERT, was one of the resource persons for the event. In his discourse, he said that economic development of any state can take place only through educational development of the people. He expressed optimism that the participants of the workshop would be ‘empowered to answer questionnaires with correct information and data for the betterment of the state.’
Giving his feedback on the workshop, Professor Singh said that the participants shown enthusiasm. It is important to have communication from both sides, he said, and expressed expectation for excellence from them in the future as well. Likewise, he was optimistic that they would shoulder their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication, ‘keeping in mind the future of the students.’
The mission director of the SMA of SSA, Gregory Thejawelie also said in his speech that the success of the workshop would depend on how much the participants have learned, and sharing the same with other teachers with a clear concept.
Stating that education sector has a big responsibility of dealing with human resources, he said the development of the people is intrinsically linked to the foundation. Therefore, he asserted that one should do his/her part in their own humble capacity, and then certainly, he said changes will take place.
Elucidating on the importance of collecting and reporting correct and reliable data and information, Gregory said through accurate reporting system the strength and weaknesses will be made known, and that corrective and remedial measures can be taken thereby improving the quality of education in the state.
He also informed that as per the direction of the Ministry, census survey will be conducted in order to discern the achievement level, and achievement survey at the state level on a yearly basis. In this regard, Gregory maintained that though policies are framed, the achievement and success will ultimately depend on the performance of each one.
The participants were asked to discharge their responsibility with determination and correct attitude. ‘Have some love and concern for the students and let us do our duty’ said Gregory.
Though the state is yet to implement PINDICS, he informed that it will cover all the schools in the state, which will be conducted twice in a year. Hence, the concerned officials are asked to furnish correct and reliable information, which will be forwarded to NCERT.
Focusing on quality services and results in the education sector, he said, more trainings will be conducted to develop the competency level among the officials concerned.
The workshop which began on June 28 was attended by ninety-eight participants from 36 blocks which comprised on project officers, project assistants, EBRC coordinators and ToTs.
The resource persons for the workshop were Dr Vijaya K, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, New Delhi and Prof Dr Virendra P Singh, Programme Coordinator QMTs, Department of Elementary Education, NCERT, New Delhi.
