Department of AH&VS holds animal welfare workshop in Phek, highlights Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

DIMAPUR — The Department of Animal Husbandry &Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted a district-level workshop on animal welfare awareness on the theme “A call to care” at the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) office, Phek, on Thursday.
In her keynote address, CVO Phek Dr. E Mhonlumi Lotha said that the programme was organised to spread awareness for animal care and that all citizens are responsible for their well being and protection, a DIPR report stated.

Resource person Sekhotso Rokha, retainer lawyer, Phek District Legal Services Authority, who spoke on sensitisation on animal welfare, highlighted the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, and appealed to the citizens and pet owners to provide suitable environment and proper care to animals.
Short speeches were delivered by EAC Phek Imnasenla Walling and SDPO Phek Khuzah Jurry.
The EAC outlined the functions of the District Level Committee for Protection of Animals headed by the deputy commissioner.
The SDPO informed with regard to international organisation/PETA and Animal Welfare Board of India.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Vililu Epao, VAS Phek, while Dr. Tshokedu Keyho, VAS, proposed vote of thanks.
