Department of Horticulture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and COE Agrotextile, SASMIRA, Mumbai, conducted one day workshop-cum-training on the theme “Agrotextiles: Holistic alternative to enhance yield and profitability of horticulture and agriculture” on December 4 at State Horticulture Nursery, 4th Mile, Dimapur, which was attended by around 40 officers from the Department of Horticulture, Agriculture and Sericulture.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Pawan Kumar, Joint Director of Horticulture who also delivered the welcome address.
In the inaugural address, CM Tsanglao, Secretary of Horticulture, exhorted the officers to be attentive and sincere in attending the training since the scheme was a first of its kind in the State to be implemented under the Ministry of Textiles and in return, disseminate the same to the farmers of the State for popularising the use of agrotextiles in the horticulture, agriculture and sericulture sector for the uplift of economy in the State.
During the first technical session, Dr. S Raman, Chief consultant, COE SASMIRA, presented a power point presentation on the topic “Importance of irrigation and fertigation in protected cultivation,” while PR Surwase, scientist ‘C’ SASMIRA, highlighted on the “Scheme for promoting usage of Agrotexile in NER” and “Components of agrotextile - kits and modalities of distribution of agrotextile - kits in NER.”
In the second technical session, Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme coordinator of KVK Dimapur, spoke on the “Off-season and year round cultivation of vegetable and flowers under protected cultivation,” while Dr. Pankaj Neog, Department of Entomology, SASRD, spoke on “Pest and disease management for horticulture crops in precision farming.’ It was followed by an interactive session between the participants and the resource persons.
The training programme was highly informative for the officers, who could in return disseminate the same to the farmers to enhance the yield and profitability of the production sector through the use of Agrotextiles in the State.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ambadas Garje, COE Agrotech, SASMIRA.
