Dimapur, Dec. 5 (EMN): The working committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) has condemned the “abduction and brutal killing of ‘captain’ Akham Chang of NSCN (R) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
A press release from the committee on Thursday stated that Chang was abducted from his residence by Indian army personnel on the night of November 29 and was taken to their camp.
“He was brutally tortured throughout the night and the next day till death. In order to hide their criminal activities, he was taken to a nearby jungle and was shot multiple times from a point-blank range to show the world he was killed in an offensive action. The Assam Rifles has once again brought to fore their lack of respect for human lives,” read the statement.
It reiterated that Indo-Naga talks have come to an end and all outstanding issues have been resolved except for the ceremonial signing of the political document. “Therefore, it will be unwise on the part of the Indian security forces to provoke and vitiate the environment anywhere in the Naga homeland.
“It is with much hardship and best of efforts, after many decades, that all the Naga National Political Groups and the Naga civil society in unison are on the threshold of the long-desired peace and therefore, the Assam Rifles should stop exhibiting terrorist traits in Naga homeland,” it added.
