PARLIAMENTARY Secretary for PWD (Housing), T. Torechu has called upon the department officials to work in cohesion with ‘one thinking, one move and one way’ to fulfill the motive of the department towards quality workmanship.
In an introductory interaction with the senior engineers of the department in presence of PWD Engineer-in-Chief, Peter Solo and PWD (Housing) Chief Engineer Chanbemo Lotha here today, Torechu expressed his political will to take up the policy matters at the government level.
“Politicians cannot change the face of the state, but it is the technocrats and engineers who have to take up quality infrastructure development,” he said.
Being allocated with the Housing department recently, he however appealed the department officers to extend support and cooperation to achieve the goals of the department for the betterment and development of Naga people.
“I can only put forth the policy matters and grievances but you have to take forward the developmental works at the ground level,” he said, while also stressing the need for proper work culture.
Responding to Chief Engineer’s projection that projects cannot be completed on time due to fund constraint while there are huge amount of liabilities to be paid to the contractors, he suggested that the department should try to take up less projects with proper sanctions so that liabilities are not created.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the department officials for the efficient working system. He also acknowledged Chief Minister TR Zeliang for allocating the department to him.
Engineer-in-Chief PWD Chanbemo Lotha highlighted the problems faced by department in timely execution of the projects mainly due to fund constraints. He stressed on the need to prioritize the projects.
He expressed the hope that the new Parliamentary Secretary would take up the concerns and difficulties of the department with the state government while also asserting full cooperation from with the political head of the department in the interest of the state.
