UKHRUL, NOVEMBER 6: Reliving the beauty of Tangkhul traditional art of wood crafting, Hunphun Baptist Church (HBC) kicked off a grand exhibition cum sales of myriad woodwork items, which was inaugurated in its campus on November 5.
Organised as part of HBC’s fundraising project in connection with its upcoming diamond jubilee celebration scheduled from February 25-28, 2017, the exhibition drew large crowd of visitors and buyers from different walks of life.
Attending the inaugural function as chief guest, executive member ADC Ukhrul Admund Chiphang lauded HBC’s venture and described the team ‘industrious and talented.’ He also said woodcrafts are at par with word class standard and added that those items could fetch huge amount if exported to international market.
The exhibited items included unique coffee tables, decorative racks, single and double table with root legs, solid wood family dining table, flower stand, solid raw chair with table, solid wood dining chair etc with prices ranging from Rs 2999 to Rs 49999.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, diamond jubilee committee secretary Tungsa Ragui said it took eight months for the team to complete the project and added they have put in their best efforts and workmanship.
Asserting that all the items were made by collecting stumps and roots of indigenous dead alder trees from the forests and fields, Ragui said not a single live tree was felled in the course of the entire craft project. “Hence, it did not cause any damage to the environment and ecology in any manner,” he said.
On the day first, the exhibition achieved a total turnover of Rs 3.5 lakhs. “As of now, we provide home delivery service of all the items within the town and we are planning to make them available online shortly on our official Facebook account: hbcdiamondjubilee2017,” Ragui added.
