Wood craft: Sechü Zubza hosts livelihood venture

Some of the wood crafts they had been creating over the past three days can be seen in the background.[/caption] Our Correspondent Kohima, March 16: To educate and train youth in crafts, a month-long training programme focusing woodcraft commenced at Sechü Zubza, near Kohima town, on March 13. Around 30 unemployed youths from Sechü Zubza village, mostly school drop-outs, are attending the training programme. The event is being conducted under the guidance and supervision of some skilled craftsmen who are members of Vitho Industrial Cooperative Society in Sechü Zubza. A number of students awaiting results of their board examinations are also attending the training, it was learned. The 20-days livelihood training programme will culminate on April 3. The event was organized by the North East Society for Handicraft Incubation & Livelihood Promotion (NE-SHILP) in collaboration with Vitho Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd. Neibu's wood work training (1) The training on wood crafting, which the villagers consider it so timely, is a CSR initiative of the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi). “There is immense potential among the Naga youths in craft-making, provided they are imparted the required training when they are young,” said a member of Vitho Society. During the training, the participants were made to work mostly on decorative designs on wood and bamboo, besides and also on furniture. Members of Vitho Society expressed hope that the training will enable the participants toward becoming skilled craftsmen to make a living out of it. “Government-sponsored trainings such as this doesn’t come often, and therefore, the youths should make use of the opportunity that is been provided to them in their doorstep,” a member of the group said.
