Dimapur, April 2 (EMN): The State Resource Centre for Women conducted a two-day workshop about sexual harassment of women at workplaces (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013 during March 26 to the 27th. The event was conducted at the government polytechnic in Kohima and the District Institute of Education and Training (Diet) in Chiechama.
A press release received on March 27 informed about some of the key topics that were discussed during the workshop. The topics included the purview of the Act catering to every women working in the organized, unorganized, and public, and private sector; the Supreme Court’s definition of sexual harassment as any unwelcomed, sexually determined physical, verbal, or non-verbal conduct; redress for complaints relating to sexual harassment of women at workplace, among others.
Discussing the Act in details the press note informed that every organization—private or public—should have an internal complaints committee. However, an organization with fewer than ten employees shall fall within the purview of the local complaints committee constituted by the deputy commissioner at the district level; complaints can be registered at shebox.nic.in (sexual harassment electronic-box), an online complaint management system by the ministry of Women and Child Development. Victims may call the women’s helpline 181, a 24 x7 toll free helpline, or visit Sakhi – one stop centers located in Kohima and Dimapur.
The faculties of the two institutions resolved to work toward setting up an internal complaints committee. It assured to make the institution a safer place for women, the press release stated.
