Womenfolk trained on sericulture

Dimapur, March 29 (EMN): District Sericulture office, Kohima, under Integrated Eri Silkworm Development Project (IESDP), NERTPS (North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme), organised eight-day training on eri host plants plantation and improved silkworm rearing technologies from March 9-21 at various blocks within Kohima district. The project under the preview of ministry of textiles aimed at empowering women sericulturists, especially belonging to the poorer sections of the society for sustainable livelihood in the North Eastern Region. Around 500 women sericulturists were trained on the different types of food plants available for silkworm rearing, methods of cultivation of the main food plants of eri i.e, castor and kessuru with on field demonstration, improved silkworm rearing technologies, economics of ericulture, disease and pests management of eri silkworm host plants etc. The training was conducted for two blocks- Tseminyu town and Chunlika at Tseminyu on March 9 and 10 and for Jakhama, Chiephobozou, Kohima village, the training was held at Khonoma Rufunuo Hall at ‘D’ block, Kohima from March 15 to 2. Resource persons for the training were Yingsungbeni Ngully, assistant sericulture officer; Keneizetuo Khro, extension office; Henwalo Lorin, extension agent; Atenjemba Imchen, sericulture supervisor and Thepfuroko, sericulture supervisor.
