A women’s organization in Nagaland’s capital, Kohima town, has stepped forward to repair deplorable roads in their locality after the government failed to undertake the repair works despite several appeals. The United Women Welfare Society (UWWS) of Lower Lerie, Kohima recently initiated the black-topping of the road in their locality as well as making fresh cutting of smaller approaches within the colony, by utilizing the organization’s fund while some residents and well-wishers also extended support to complete the project.
A stretch of 861 running feet in length and 12 feet wide road was covreed at an estimated amount of Rs.5 lakh, it was learnt.
On Thursday morning, the Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Dr. Neikesalie Nicky Kire formally inaugurated the newly paved road lauded the efforts of the women society in constructing the road without the any aid from the government. He said they have set an exemplary role for others to emulate.
He also pointed out that people tend to depend a lot on government for everything, and while the government is not trying to shun its responsibilities, he said the citizens should also be willing to come forward and support the government instead of blaming the government for everything.
