Directorate of Women Resource Development (WRD) conducted the Partner NGOs (PNGOs) meeting and annual conference on May 3 at the Directorate. Altogether, 14 PNGOs covering the entire districts of Nagaland attended the conference.
Addressing the conference, Director of Women Resource Development, T Haralu, informed that, in its role as catalysts and agents of change and to promote a more active and deliberate involvement of women in the development process, the Department has devised a novel Government - NGO partnership with the apex women organizations (Hohos) in each district. Haralu added, “each and every village in a given district has a Mahila Unit which is affiliated to the apex hoho in the respective districts thereby enabling a wide network of support workforce available to the Department.
Under the institutional structure, partner NGOs are involved in conceptualizing, implementation and monitoring of departmental activities in the districts. It was observed that involvement of women in the empowering process accelerated the process of their own empowerment.
The programme was chaired by Khrienuo Tachu, Additional Director, and short speech was delivered by Lamkhochong Limsong, Secretary Women Resource Development.
Information and discussion on the various departmental activities in the districts was also held.
In the afternoon, a workshop on select gender sensitive issues was conducted with Nzanthung K Yanthan, Women Resource Development Officer, as the resource person.
During the conference, the Directorate also released funds for the financial assistance to destitute women for the year 2015-16 to the PNGOs. All the beneficiaries are asked to contact PNGOs of their respective districts. It was also informed that, during the period 2013-14 and 2014-2015, financial assistance could not be provided due to non allocation of fund.
