Dimapur, June 29: The Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO) conducted workshops at Tuensang, Noklak and Shamator during June 21-24. The events were conducted with the theme “Together we build for change.”
At Tuensang, Alemjungshi Ao, the deputy commissioner of Tuensang district, and Col. Deepak Dayal, the commandant of the 40th Assam Rifles exhorted the gathering to maintain peace and harmony among the communities in the district. They asked the women folk to shoulder equal responsibility with men, a note from the union this week informed.
At Noklak, Mhathung Tsanglao, ADC of Noklak, encouraged women to be meaningful architects of society and to be self reliant and independent and to make maximum use of different Government schemes for the uplift of women.
At Shamatore, Wonchio Odyou talked about the uplift of women and the importance of women’s education in the society. Col. Vineet Jaiswal of the 15th Assam Rifles exhorted the menfolk and spoke of the importance of the political participation of women the in decision making thereby creating equality in a the society.
He also pointed out the problems leading to the downfall of women empowerment, one of which he mainly attributed to domestic violence.
The facilitators for the workshop were Birila Tokiu, president of the ENWO and Temsula Thingchum, member of the JACWR. They spoke on the topics “Together we build for change” and “Women- Architects of society.” Birila Tokiu encouraged the men folk, especially those from the eastern regions ‘who have been affected these past few months due to inter tribal clashes that it was important to have a paradigm shift and to shun violence that create conflicts which hamper the growth of communities in all aspects but instead to work together in unity to bring about transformational changes in the area.’
Temsula Thingchum spoke on the theme “Women-Architects of society.” She said that women have a bigger role in shaping the society and women were the harbingers of peace.
“She encouraged the women to shoulder the responsibility which God has given a woman to be responsible mothers and wives thereby nurturing our husbands and children in the right path and in righteousness,” the organizers stated in updates.
The workshops started at Longleng and will end at Mon town in July.
